Value Based Recruitment (VBR)

In our experience, Value Based Recruitment is excellent when recruiting from abroad.

Value Based Recruitment

We believe that it is even more important, when recruiting from abroad, to ensure that all candidates share the future employer’s values, beyond any cultural differences, that we, of course, still cherish.

We work with all our clients and our local, in-country teams to embed the principles of Value Based Recruitment in the search and selection process, as well as using the same principles to drive our Tailored Retention approach:

  • Putting values at the forefront of our searches.
  • Pre-screening candidates, through value-based assessment interviews.
  • Supporting the selection and decision making process for our clients, through in-country selection days that include specific value assessment tools (e.g. multiple mini-interviews, situational judgment tests).
  • Making our Tailored Retention value based, to support the journey of settling in the UK and in the new role, via the same set of values.
Commonly acknowledged benefits of VBR include:
  • Reducing agency spend and recruitment cost.
  • Positive impact on staff turnover.
  • Boosting staff morale.
  • Creating a more positive work environment.
  • Staff feeling more valued.
  • Reducing sickness and absence.
  • Increased job satisfaction.
  • Ultimately, ensuring that we deliver the best care possible.

Since its introduction in 2013, Value Based Recruitment has become common practice in both health and social care. We are awaiting the results of a three year impact study of VBR by late 2019.

International recruitment should form part of a costed, holistic workforce strategy. Occupations in health and social care should be acknowledged as being in shortage and therefore any future immigration system needs to cover recruitment from the EEA and outside at all levels of skill.

Value Based Recruitment (VBR) will go some way to help ensure we have a future workforce not only with the right skills and in the right numbers, but with the right values to support effective team working in delivering excellent care.
