Leaders of the Future

An Innovative Leadership Program for New and Experienced Managers

The Client

A well-established healthcare organisation offering a wide range of care and nursing services to thousands of patients and clients

The Challenge

To launch an innovative leadership, team effectiveness and development program, designed for potential healthcare leaders of the future, with a balance of highly interactive in person and remote sessions, via Zoom and WhatsApp.

We also wished to allow for direct contributions from the executive team, throughout the program, to make participants feel even more valued and supported.

The Program

  • Cohorts of 10-12 managers, going through the journey together, over a period of 6-8 months

  • One to one enrolment through a 45-minute interview / welcome conversation with our program leaders

  • An initial welcome session with the whole cohort, in person – developing common ground, from early-on, and creating a shared starting point for a successful leadership journey

  • 7 highly interactive program sessions (2 in-person and 5 on Zoom/Teams), led by two of our most senior program leaders, of 2 hours each (3hrs for the in-person sessions) over the following 6-7 months; frequency will be approximately monthly, with a summer break

  • Practice partners for each participant, to share the leadership journey

  • A series of practices in between each session, to be developed individually and/or with practice partners

  • A program e-booklet, including core leadership material, practices and recommended readings/references

  • A CPD certificate of completion, leading to more opportunities for professional and career development

Outcomes

  • 86% average attendance, rising to 96% when taking holidays, work emergencies and sickness into account - under particularly challenging circumstances

  • 100% completion rate

  • A large majority of participants found the program useful and, more significantly, reported still finding it useful many months after completing the program

  • Among the specific skills and qualities developed, participants mentioned: resilience, listening, the ability to handle difficult situations and conversations, ability to better look after themselves, being more positive and open about the future, being prepared to step beyond their comfort zones, and being more confident

  • Participant feedback confirmed that the program proved particularly beneficial for teamworking and team building - perceived as very much needed at the outset

  • Strong consensus that the program should be offered to more colleagues, on a recurrent basis

I felt appreciated the whole time and the program helped me to develop myself.
