NEW TO CARE
A Personal and Professional Development Program for Clinical Support Workers New to their Roles
The Client
Seven Mental Health, Learning Disabilities and Community Trusts in the Midlands, grouped into a local collaborative
The Challenge
Design a program for colleagues new to healthcare roles (in their first 6-9 months since joining), having come from other walks of life.
-
Support a sense of being valued and belonging to their organisation
-
Develop the core, softer skills (from listening to communication, from self-awareness to effective teamwork) that are essential to succeed in their roles
-
Complement existing induction for health and social care colleagues
-
Engage with and reflect on career development
I love the fact that the program has been reflective. Enabled me to come out of my shell and talk about my experience and self in the way I rarely do.

The Program
The program has been developed for Clinical Support Workers, new in their roles, from any background, interested in developing a career in health and social care.
Designed to complement any induction process, the program:
-
offers a unique learning experience
-
expands core skills and competencies
-
supports personal and professional development
Made up of 8 x 2hr live sessions on MS Teams, starting with a one-to-one welcome call with a Talent for Care team member, and supported by bridging practices in between, the program pathway focuses on the process of learning rather than the learning outcomes.
Sessions introduce new thinking and practices in:
-
Active listening and effective communication
-
Resilience and self-awareness
-
Empathy and compassion
-
Creating relatedness and belonging
Embedded with opportunities for peer discussion, reflective practice, and a supportive practice partnership, the program goes beyond the acquisition of new knowledge, towards achieving behavioural change and transformation, underpinned by narrative transformation as our core methodology.
The program provides an opportunity for participants to:
-
Feel valued
-
Pause and reflect
-
Connect with colleagues
-
Be heard and hear others
-
Enquire about new ways of thinking
-
Link theory and learning to ongoing practice
-
Be part of an inclusive, collaborative community
This program has supported my total whole being. From my mindset to physical being.
